Dalek

For many artists, inspiration comes from experiences they had when they were young children. For DALEK, these experiences were nothing short of traumatic. A painful experience in the second grade could have something to do with the amount of decapitations and puncture wounds often present in DALEK’s Space Monkey pieces. These creatures have become a calling card for the artist, and continue to evolve in scope. The Space Monkeys are human representations, they are self-portraits in a lot of ways and also portraits of humanity. They are floating in nothingness. Somewhere between head injuries and Space Monkeys, DALEK found time to become a respected graffiti artist and work extensively in the skateboard industry.

DALEK’s illustrations have been published in magazines such as Art Week, the Washington Post, the New York Times, and Juxtapoz, among others. His work has been featured at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris and his most recent exhibit was at the Richard Goodall Gallery in Manchester UK.

DALEK received a B.S. from Virginia Commonwealth University where he also taught for a short while, and a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
