Giving children a childhood: one-of-a-kind toy cars "prix"

Los Angeles design store hosts international charity event to benefit the world childhood foundation.

Los Angeles – Fitzsu Society, two brick-and-mortar stores and an online portal dedicated to spotlighting modern design in Los Angeles and abroad, in association with Playsam, the leading Scandinavian design company for executive wooden toys, announces the 1st ever fitzsu society Grand Prix to be held on Thursday, October 19, 2006 in Los Angeles. This inaugural charity event will premiere the original works of over fifty prominent designers, all of whom are well-known in their own respective industries, by using a simple yet sophisticated toy car, the Playsam Streamliner Classic Car.

The fitzsu society Grand Prix will be host to a silent auction gala where attendees can purchase original pieces by designers such as Michael Graves, Karim Rashid, Yves Behar, Syd Mead, Dalek and world renowned architect, Richard Meier, designer of the prestigious Getty Center in Los Angeles, among many others.

"We have invited our favorite designers across various mediums to participate by putting their individual mark on Playsam’s Streamliner Classic Car," said Su Sazama, co-owner of Fitzsu Society. "With the Streamliner essentially being a children’s toy, it was natural for us to select an organization as beneficiary of the event whose efforts are focused on children. We are so pleased to announce the World Childhood Foundation as the official charity of the fitzsu society Grand Prix."

Fitzsu Society will donate the net proceeds generated by the auction to the World Childhood Foundation (Childhood), an international organization whose mission it is to defend the rights of every child and to promote better living conditions for vulnerable and exploited children at risk all over the world. Altogether the event stands to generate upwards of $50,000 US through both the silent auction gala and online.

"With the exposure and financial support generated from this international design event, Childhood will continue to assist children in need around the world."

Childhood was founded in 1999 by H.M. Queen Silvia of Sweden, who felt a compelling need to address the social, emotional and material poverty of children around the world. Over the last seven years the organization has grown to support 75 programs in 14 countries.
